We are fortunate to enjoy a superb quality of life, thanks to a region filled with natural
splendors, a vibrant cultural community, a rich heritage and excellent schools, recreation
and medical facilities.
The natural hardwood and pine forests throughout the area attracted the early settlers to
set up numerous woodworking industries. As the land was cleared, small mixed farms
appeared. Grist mills, sawmills and power dams were set up along the Saugeen River and
its tributaries to process the grains harvested into flour and feed for the animals, to
produce lumber from the logs floated down the Saugeen River and to produce electrical
power for the Towns and Villages within the area.
Today many of these mills and power dams still remain and have been converted to unique
homes and studios. Much of the land cleared by early farmers continues to be farmed while
the balance of it now provides scenic recreational hobby farms, country homes, open and
treed acreages with its patches of fresh water ponds, meadows, aged split cedar rail and
stone fence lines.
The sparkling rivers and streams meander through the rolling treed countryside and
provide recreational relaxation for swimmers, canoeists, fishing and photography.
A natural area of rolling hills and bush land provides the ideal setting and terrain for
outdoor activities including golfing at numerous 9 and 18 hole courses, snowmobile trails,
cross-country skiing, hiking, horse back riding trails and bird watching.
Recreation facilities, doctors, medical clinics, hospitals, schools, churches and shopping
throughout the area to serve your needs.
It is a unique area in which to live, work and play. - "NESTLED IN NATURE". |
